Adventures in European Food and Drink - Part 2
We had so many interesting and delicious food and drink experiences during our European travels, I collected a few more examples for a second post on the topic.
Gelato! Obviously this is more common in the US now, but many years ago I had it for the first time in Italy, when my favorite flavor was Malaga (rum raisin). I couldn't find it in Italy this time, but strangely just found it back in the Netherlands, in Edam. Mango is my new favorite, but I'm on a quest to try as many different flavors as possible before this trip is over. Mary loves limonade (which is lemon, not lime).
Boeuf bougignonne - the pride of the Burgundy region of France. I'm going to jazz up my beef stew with wine from now on.
Escargots! From our tour farewell dinner, these were perfectly flavored with pesto and garlic, and eaten over slices of baguette. I didn't exactly learn how to hold the shell in the clip correctly, but somehow managed.
Loose mochi in the FranPrix grocery store, sold by the piece. I had mango 🥭 (Are you noticing a pattern here?)
We had some delicious melons along this trip, usually at breakfast. I was fooled by this one in the Netherlands - it looked like a canteloupe on the outside, but green like a honeydew on the inside. I was disappointed until I tasted it - a green canteloupe? I decided to Google this topic and just got more confused.
A quick lunch in the gardens in Versailles was still going to be delicious. The French don't fool around with their cuisine. I had quiche Provençale with a side salad, served in a cardboard takeout box.
Macarons! Another once-rare treat that's becoming easier to find at home, but the displays and flavors in Paris were impressive. Just don't call them macaroons!
It's time to wrap up this post with a bon appetit !
Christine
How fun to try all these lovely foods! Mango sorbet is my favorite flavor too!
ReplyDeleteHow long are you staying in Amsterdam before heading home? I’ll bet you and Mary are going to miss each other!
Hi Sue! Sadly for me, Mary is already home and enjoying Gun Lake. I spent a short week with Kelly and headed for Scotland. It's almost time for me to go home now.
DeleteLooks delicious. I'm afraid David and I were boring by comparison. We ate a lot of pizza but it was real Italian pizza.
ReplyDeleteCarb loading with pizza is so satisfying after a long day's hike! :)
