Vieste IT - seaside, here I come

Monday Oct 10 - 3rd day of tour

We left Rome at 8 am. And headed to our next stop on the east coast of Italy called Vieste on the Adriatic Sea.  It is in the “spur” of the boot of Italy, and it is part of the Gargano Peninsula.  We were told that this region of Italy also produces the best wines.  If you see on an Italian bottle of wine, that it is from the Pulgia region, it is supposed to be good.  On our way out, about an hour outside of Rome we stopped at - you guessed it - another ruin!

Hadrian’s Villa (Villa Hadriana) is a large Roman villa built by the emperor Hadrian in the period 118-135 CE. The villa was a sumptuous complex of over 30 buildings, covering an area of at least 100 hectares (c. 250 acres), maybe even 300 hectares, of which much is still unexcavated. Hadrian’s Villa is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After the ruins we drove for another 6 hours to our destination by the sea!  It is a beautiful place, but unfortunately after dinner it started pouring down rain so we couldn’t explore.  Maybe tomorrow.

All the following pictures are the Hadrians villa ruins

On to the seaside in Vieste Italy.  These next 2 are views from my room.  It is REALLY nice.

We are in the “spur” of Italy.  I marked it on the map!

  1. I'm glad you marked the spur. I was picturing south of there, which is really the heel. Hadrian's ruins were cool. When you post pics from Pompeii I'm going to lose it
