April 30
Day 6
Surrounded by Cappadocia's otherworldly "fairy-chimney" rock formations, we'll do a little of this and a little of that today. First we will visit the Three Sisters rock formations and then Pigeon Valley. Afterwards we will visit the carpet weaving school and learn about the centuries-old tradition and artistry of Turkish carpet. Then we head to a hike at Paşabağ Valley, where we will walk among the rock formations.
At the end of the day we will finish up with a group wine tasting.
—— Today’s pictures will definitely have a LOT of BIG rock formations. All formed over thousands of years after a volcano covered the area in volcanic ash! Enjoy!

If you look closely in the distance between these two fairy chimneys you can see a snow covered volcano.
This formation above is called The Three Sisters. Below, while in pigeon valley I climbed up to this rock to look at the pigeon roosts up close, I didn’t think that they way down would be a bit harder and I had to slide down a bit of it (only got one small cut) Oops.
Like this tree, all over the tourist sites were trees with scraps of white material on them, so much so that this almost looks like it was flowering. Each one represents
a prayer or a wish.
Look at this cool rock. A fortress was carved into it.
We took a break from looking at the local topography and went to learn how Turkish rugs were made. Here, one of the carpet weavers is showing me how it is done. She even let me weave one knot onto the carpet.

They showed us how silk strands were pulled from the silk worm cocoons
Back to cool rocks and homes carved into rocks. This camel wasn’t tied up and came over to me to pose!
Below picture is a church carved out of the fairy chimneys

I climbed up to the top of a rock formation with 2 other women in our group Melissa and Megha. It was slippery and just a bit scary, so when we got back down, we were pretty happy and had to pose among the formations.
And finally, a well deserved wine tasting!
One of the coolest places on earth! I love the pic of you inside the rock formation! Glad you made it up and down safely on your climb! Do you think you might tie a white scarf to a tree with a prayer? I love that!
ReplyDeleteWell deserved wine tasting is right! 😆
