It's departure night!
We're having a text discussion about Leaving on a Jet Plane (because all my bags are packed, and I'm finally ready to go, while Mary was ready days ago) while hanging around our respective airports: O'Hare for Mary and Logan for me. All systems are go. In the morning we'll be in Amsterdam!
Did you know that John Denver actually wrote the song, and Peter, Paul and Mary just covered it the next year? Neither did I!
And away we go...! - Christine-
Mary’s flight experience:
June 1 and it is flight to Amsterdam day. Thank you to my friend Elaine Helgren for getting me to the GRR airport Wednesday morning! I have tsa precheck so it was super easy getting through the line. The only reason I bring this up, is this is the first time ever that I had something confiscated. I had put a corkscrew in my carry on for the possibility of a wine emergency. Little did I know that while the corkscrew was fine to bring - the tiny blade (that I didn’t notice) on the opposite end was a big no no. Oops.
The flight to Amsterdam was on a Boeing B787-8/9. I have never been on a plane that had a smoother take off! The flight attendant crew was big enough that there is was a purser in charge! It was great that I had upgraded seats that included free wine or beer and had a gift pack that included comfy things like eye masks, socks and lotion. I felt pampered. 8 uneventful hours later we arrived in Amsterdam Schiphol airport.
