Buffaloes and Ruins
But first, on the way we stopped at a buffalo farm and watched the process of making of mozzarella. We saw it all the way from milking the buffalo to eating a lunch of mozzarella, ricotta, tomatoes and lettuce there. We also enjoyed yogurt and ice cream made from Buffalo milk.
Next stop Paestum Italy, which was settled by the Greeks in the 7th century BC. It was occupied for about 1400 years, and then for reasons unknown, abandoned. It was rediscovered in the late 1700’s when explorers were out looking for Pompeii. Unlike Pompeii, it was never covered up, so it is still very well preserved. If you want to know more about it….

We spent a couple of hours wandering thru the ruins and the museum there, then we traveled to Sorento Italy and took a ferry to Maiori - phew, busy day.
There is not much variation I can do on single pictures of me, but I made sure I had a buddy along for this one. An Asian Water Buffalo
Guys looking real thrilled that we are watching them make mozzarella
Check it out, this is a buffalo massage machine that they get to go use after they are milked. As an fyi, they also play Mozart for the morning milking because the buffalos seem to produce more milk that way.
Me standing in front of the ruins of a temple in Paestum Italy.
This is from a sarcophagus from this site. Apparently it is famous and is suppose to depict the deceased diving into the after life.
Artistic shot of 2 of the temples You can just barely make out the one in back
Me again 😎
Paestum contains three of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples in the world, including the two Hera Temples shown above. The one on the right is from 550BC, the left is 450BC.
We were allowed to wander all over the site. Here I am inside the oldest temple
Cool temple pic
For those following along, this is where we are on the west coast of Italy.
We made it to our ferry, and here we are pulling away from Solerno. We are on the Tyrrhenian sea
Cute town along the Amalfi coast
A town called Atrani on the Amalfi coast. We are all standing up taking pictures, because they are currently filming Equalizer 3 in this town. It stars Denzel Washington.
This is where we are staying. It is a town called Maiori on the Amalfi coast. We have a free day tomorrow to explore!!!
It's amazing how many cool things you get to see and do each day!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s almost like whiplash sometimes!!
DeleteAll of these coastal towns are so dramatic!
ReplyDeleteThey are! It amazes me how they live and grow things on the steep hillsides
ReplyDeleteThose ruins are fabulous, and even better that you can wander freely. Didn't think about Greek ruins in Italy.
