 I am so excited to be traveling with my sister Christine again.  May 24, 2023 is just around the corner and the first stop is Greece!  This is our Rick Steves Tour route.

    I can't believe it's almost here! The semester is over and it's time to pack my bags. I'm sure Mary has been ready for weeks :) Good thing she plans ahead and figures out where we should go. I'm excited to go along for the ride.

Not sure why, but I feel compelled to take photos of practically every new flower I see on my travels. Here are some blooms we noticed during our Switzerland adventures. (I asked PlantNet what they probably are.) Beautiful garden in Mürren Garden lupine Lupinus polyphyllus High up on the peak of the Schilthorn, these grow and bloom on the rocky mountainside. Hot Air Balloon and Cappadocia region

Wednesday April 29, Optional Hot Air Balloon ride Mustafapaşa village  walk and then back at the hotel and drive to visit  Göreme Open Air Museum of Monastery Valley.  We will eat lunch at a local house. Our hostess will be Fahriye at Ortahisar Village  (shoes off for lunch).  KAYMAKLI UNDERGROUND CITY / Possible visit ( inşallah(God Willing)  It doesn’t even look like I am in the balloon on this one, but I am! Mustafapaşa, the town where we were staying, is a historic town in the Urgüp District of Turkey’s Nevşehir Province, is famous for its well-preserved Greek Orthodox architecture and rich history, with a population exchange in 1923 leading to a predominantly Turkish community today.   Located in Cappadocia, it offers a quieter, more authentic experience away from major tourist crowds, featuring stone mansions, historic churches like the SS Constantine and Helen Church, and nearby valleys with rock-carved monasterie.  The above four picture...

Te Ao Maori (the World of the Maori)

Friday, March 8th Rotorua, Aotearoa New Zealand  The two main islands of New Zealand were originally discovered by Polynesian peoples traveling by large canoes from other Pacific islands, only about 700 - max 1,000 years ago. One story story goes that they named the islands Aotearoa because as they were searching for the islands, the wife of the chief saw a long white cloud and called out, "al te a roa!" to let everyone know that land was near. Today the Maori call the land Aotearoa, and many signs show both names together as Aotearoa New Zealand.  So...how to pronounce Maori ? You can say Mow-ree (emphasis on the mow, where  mow rhymes with mouse ) or Mah-dee where the d is really sitting in for a slightly rolled r sound.  Maori vocabulary  kia ora - hello, be well (pronounced as one word kyora or kee-oor-da with the rolled r/d sound) morena - good morning pai - good ka pai -sounds good?
